Eleven Cis AB Families Detected Among Korean Voluntary Donors

Abstract
Among 165,099 blood staples donated to Korean Red Cross Blood Centers during the
period of October 1, 1984 to April 30, 1985, eleven (0.0066%) Cis AB blood type cases
were identified, and the result of ispection into these families were reported.
61 cases of Cis AB blood type were turned out among these eleven families, and the
phenotypes of them were composed of 31 cases A1B3
(50.8%), 17 cases A2B3(27.8%) and 13 cases
A2B(21.3%).
From the fact above-mentioned, it could be inferred that there are a lot of families
having Cis AB blood type in Korea, and they have been localized in the southern part
of Korea, according to the fact that these eleven Cis AB blood type families originated,
five (5) from South or North Chulla province, four (4) from South Choongchung
Province and two (2) from South or North Kyungsang Province.
